David Craig, Ph.D., assistant professor of physics, has published several articles including "Dynamical eigenfunctions and critical density in loop quantum gravity" in the journal "Classical and Quantum Gravity" [Class. Quantum Grav. 30 035010 (2013)], as well as two articles with LSU co-author P. Singh, “Consistent Probabilities in sLQC” in a refereed conference proceedings [J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. 360 012028 (2012)], and "Consistent Histories in Quantum Cosmology" in the journal "Foundations of Physics" [Found. Phys. 41 371-379 (2011)].

Dahlinger Reads Paper at International Conference on Medieval Studies


James H. Dahlinger, S.J., of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures attended the International Conference on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, Mich., May 8-12. He read his paper, "Marguerite de Navarre as a Theologian."

Donn, Kirby and Colleagues Co-author Paper for the Nevada Law Journal


Cliff Donn of the Department of Anthropology, Criminology and Sociology and Brenda Kirby of the Department of Psychology, along with co-authors Rachel Donn and Lloyd Goldberg, have had their paper, "Teacher Working Conditions With and Without Collective Bargaining," accepted by the Nevada Law Journal. It will appear in Volume 14, next spring.

Makuja Presents Paper at the International Congress on Medieval Studies


Darius O. Makuja, Ph.D., of the religious studies department presented a paper titled: “Augustine’s Canterbury Mission Depended on the Frankish Kingdom and Church,” at the 48th International Congress on Medieval Studies, May 9, 2013, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. The session was presided over by Professor James Dahlinger,S.J., of the foreign languages and literatures department. Makuja is founder and organizer of the session “Church, Mission, Inculturation, and Conversion in late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages” for the last 11 years.

Michaelson and Kirby Present at A.P.S. Convention


Christina Michaelson, Ph.D., and Brenda J. Kirby, Ph.D., will present their research at the 25th Annual Convention of the Association for Psychological Science in Washington, D.C. , May 23-26, 2013 (Lesbians and Gay Men Teaching and Adopting Children: Comparative Morality Judgments by American Catholics vs. the General Public). The paper has also been accepted for publication in the Journal of Homosexuality. Kirby is also presenting her research on jury deliberation with 2013 graduate Marissa Goyden and 2012 graduates Carrie Jessen and James MacArthur (Lies, Damn Lies, and Confessions: Interrogation Practice and Jury Decision-Making).

Dr. Smith

When a mathematician or a software engineer thinks about “complexity,” they may envision streams of equations or program code. For Le Moyne College’s Dr. Sherilyn Smith of the biological sciences department, complexity is a concept illuminated in wonderful ways by phenomena not nearly so abstract, and indeed, often a subject of distaste — insects.
